xxv, 96 printed pages. Monogram "HD" for Henri Didot on the title-page. Opposite the title-page is printed "Première édition. Imprimée avec les caractères microscopiques de Henri Didot, fondu par son procédé polyamatype. Chez Lefevre, rue de l'Éperon, n° 6. Sautelet, place de la Bourse. Lugan, passage du Caire, n° 121." Inner gilt dentelles. All edges speckled. Original marbled endpapers. 42 x 65 mm. Contemporary full calf; gilt decorative spine and titling; black moresque stylised central panel on front and back covers. Extremely mild handling. Printed with Henri Didot's recently cut microscopic two and a half point typeface. Polyamatype was a mould to cast 100 or more letters simultaneously. At the bottom right of every collated section, the name 'H. Didot' is printed in a considerably smaller fount than the body of text above - the most minute typeface in the world, famously called 'NON PLUS ULTRA'. This is the first edition to use the smallest ever typeface, preceding a Latin edition of Horace by one year. Bondy, 91. Nauroy, 63. Spielmann, 291A. Welsh, 4283. OCLC, 457566295.
