Last two pages slightly wrinkled and partially detachednear gutter but complete and holding. Decorated endpapers. All edges red. Contemporary ink inscription on lower cover. Provenance: purchased from the grandaughter of Jennifer (Jenny) Grocott - and Evans before that. She was born in North Wales and lived in Tal y Bont near Conwy for most of her life and is buried there. Melanie told me that her grandmother "was an extremely intelligent lady and had many little things including the dictionary and a little prayer book with a silver cover...she died at 95 in the early 80s". 45 x 55mm. Contemporary parchment covered boards, with hand painted upper cover and spine in yellow and light green within black outlines, depicting abstract love hearts/flowers. It was probably the original owner, Jenny, who decorated this copy and she may have done so at about 12 years old in about 1898, 6 years after the edition was first published. Lower hinge weak and loose, causing small tears to final few leaves; binding slightly rubbed, faded and marked in places. Spielmann, 67. OCLC, 80153357 .
