Thirteen individual miniature volumes in French. Together with slightly later, artisanal stained oak two shelf bookstand, with burgundy velvet covered shelving. Three titles, Petit Paroissien de la Jeuness, Petit Paroissien de l'Enfance, and Paroissien des Petites Demoiselles. Many printed by Firmin Didot, Paris and at least one by Rignoux. Many published by Marcilly, Paris. Mostly with watered silk rose coloured endpapers and with five engravings. Various true miniature sizes, and bound in contemporary bone covers with velvet spines and gilt edges. Sold as an individual unique collection. Miniature libraries of early 19th-century French children's devotionals are fascinating because they represent the intersection of religious education, high-end craftsmanship, and the emerging toy market. Often referred to as "Thumb Bibes", but they are more accurately Petit Paroissiens, these tiny volumes were designed to make religious instruction intimate, portable, and engaging for young readers.
